Founded in Mexico City in 2020 by Patricia Maria Pietri, Costaiia operates at the intersection of fashion, material culture, and narrative practice. Conceived as an ongoing investigation into the cultural and symbolic dimensions of dress, the brand collaborates with artisans and craftspeople throughout Mexico to develop garments that emerge from sustained dialogues with traditional textile knowledge and inherited techniques.

Rather than treating clothing as an autonomous object, Costaiia approaches the garment as a cultural artifact—one capable of carrying memory, identity, and narrative across time. Each collection draws from archival research, oral histories, mythology, folklore, and domestic rituals, examining the ways in which collective memory becomes embedded in material form. These references are not reproduced literally, but translated into contemporary visual and tactile languages that negotiate the relationship between past and present.

Production is rooted in close collaborations with weaving, embroidery, dyeing, and ceramic workshops across Mexico, integrating handcrafted processes with carefully sourced materials. Collections are produced in limited quantities, privileging longevity, craftsmanship, and intentional production over seasonal cycles and mass manufacturing.

At its core, Costaiia is an exploration of how clothing can function as a repository of cultural memory. Through the preservation of artisanal knowledge and its reinterpretation within contemporary practice, the brand seeks to create garments that acknowledge the histories, labor, and material intelligence from which they emerge.
